When your SHOULD becomes a MUST

By Pastor Darryl Woodson

Jesus Christ, while on earth, lived with a focus and determination whereby He knew what He was to do every day and every moment. For everything He had to do, He carried it out with a ´must´ attitude.

For an example, if I got thirsty for water at some point in the day and thought to myself, ´I should drink water´; if I don’t, 20 minutes later my should becomes ´I really should some water´; and yet again, if I don’t, 60 minutes later this becomes ´I must have water!´.
My need keeps on growing for the thing that I desire until my casual should transforms into a desperate must.

I have come to learn that the difference between religion and relationship is this; religion is a SHOULD, while relationship is a MUST. When I have relationship, I strongly desire to connect with God, I must connect with Him.

…He said to them, ¨I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also… _Luke 4:43
Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following;… _Luke 13:33
He knew it was imperative that He did what He did.

…Jesus came to the place, He looked up and saw him, and said to him, ¨Zacchaeus, make haste and come down, for today I must stay at your house.¨ _Luke 19:5
One Jew to another, staying at one´s house means that there is a desire to enter into relationship. Especially with me, the New Covenant man, Jesus Christ is eager to and must enter into my house.

My beloved spoke, and said to me: ¨Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.¨ … _Song of Solomon 2:10-14
Our beloved the Bride groom calls us away, away from focusing on the problems in our lives and all around us, away to Him, to keeping our eyes on Him alone. When we do this, all the things we do begin to change. We start to concern ourselves with eternity and everything is urgent and important in our lives.

Through every trial and temptation, I know that the battle is His. The only fight I have is the fight to CONNECT. I must keep the connection with God with prayer and study and meditation. Your priority is to stay open to heaven, always keep before the Throne of Grace.
