GIVING AND SOWING

By Pastor Henry Mugisha

Galatians 6:7-8 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.

2nd Corinthians 9:6-7 But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

The principles in the Word of God are to be worked out and lived out. Keeping this in mind, you have to sow before you can reap, and by the same measure that you sow you will reap. Galatians 6 states that a man will only reap what he has sown thus a man cannot sow to the flesh and reap of the Spirit. We can only reap what we have sown and in the same equivalence.
If it is a principle in the Word, be sure it is as it says it is. God does not lie and He shall not repent.

Everything that happens in the spiritual realm can be related to the equivalent in the natural. Seeing as sowing relates to seeds, planting and reaping, there are multitudes of seeds that can be sown. We sow by giving and this is seed in the ground. Jesus was seed that came to earth, died and reaped of the church. That is why we are His body and all parts of His body. The seed sowed reaped in its very nature. The very primary significance of seed is that it denotes beginning.

In an outline, these are the significances of planting seed;
1.      Your seed is your bridge. Your bridge to prosperity in every area of your life.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

2.      Your seed is your conversation about your future. 1st Kings 17:8-16
Proverbs 11: 24-25 There is one that scatters, and yet increases; and there is one that withholds more than is right, but it leads to poverty. The liberal soul shall be made rich: and he that waters shall be watered also himself.
To withhold from giving will lead to poverty in many areas of a person’s life, financially and even emotionally! Even when it seems that we have lost when we give, we are actually gaining; losing to gain!

3.      Your seed is your documentation of trust. Trusting that God will do what He says He will do.

4.      Your sowing is your memorial. Your seed is what causes either God or man to remember you. Reading of the woman with the alabaster flask of very expensive oil in the Gospel of Mark, Jesus speaks and says,
Mark 14: 9 Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.
Your sowing will be told of as a memorial to you!

Even as the women in Mark 14 and 1st Kings 17 gave at a cost, giving their only and best, we in turn have to give out of our comfort zones and what we know we can by our own strength and ability. Planting our seeds must cost us something.
