THE POWER OF THE TITHE

REVIEW OF THE SERMON DELIVERED BY REV. EVERET GARRY AT V.C.C. ON 10/3/2013
People can accumulate much yet still die of stress because their prosperity is built upon the wrong foundation. We see a healthy prosperity in the life of Abraham. He was blessed in all areas. God wants you blessed in four areas in your life:

1.      God wants you spiritually blessed (pro 3:3-4)
To get this divine blessing and walk in favour, you need to bind mercy and truth upon the tablets of your heart
2.      God wants us mentally blessed (Pro 3:5-6)
Trusting Him wholly and making wise decisions
3.      Physical blessing (pro 3:7-8)
Keep your body from doing what is unhealthy for it
4.      Financial blessings(Pro 3:9-10)
If you honour the Lord with all of your increase, you will have plenty. Gen 14:18-20 reveals one of the pillar actions of Abraham & probably a core for his financial success – giving of tithe. He also made a vow that he was not going to be a thief, he would take nothing from the plunder he made (See Vs 23). He gave a tithe not to the war lords but to God through Melchizedek and the Lord blessed him (See Gen 15:1), You may think and conclude that Abraham paid the tithe only that once because it seems not to surface again but the evidence of this strong mode of life is seen in the impact and legacy it leaves in his grandson Jacob . Jacob also vowed to tithe (Gen 28:20-22).

Years down the road God placed the tithe in the law so he could bless His people (Lev 27:30). The tithe revealed to them a great way to worship. In the New Covenant, the tithe is not given as mandatory or compulsory. We now serve God willingly. It is not the amount that you give; it is the heart with which you give it that counts. God loves it when you give cheerfully.

But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. (2 Co 9:6-7)
