‘Changing a
Community one person at a time’
Asking
people if we can bless them is an offer that few refuse. We’re not saying, “Can
we pray for you in a general way?” We’re not putting a difficult burden on
those doing the praying. Blessing someone is simple and easy. The Holy Spirit
comes because, when you bless, you are reflecting something that the Father is
doing and speaking words that the Father desires to be said. God’s desire to
bless is absolutely outrageous. Nothing can stop him. He has set himself with
immovable intent to bless mankind. His longing is that Jesus shall have many
brothers and sisters.
When we
go out and bless people we are looking for a “KARIOS” moment. Kairos is a greek
word that means: “the right or opportune moment for something to happen”.
Kairos moments only happen once, once you miss that opportunity you never get
it back. It was meant for that person, at that time. When we bless a person we
do not pray to God for a blessing but we speak a blessing using the authority
Jesus gives us to pronounce blessing on the people so that He may come and
bless them.
This is
what Jesus commissioned us to do when he drew us into the Kingdom of Priests!
We can remember this simple acronym when we go out into our community.
1) K- Knock. We have come from the VCC.
May we come in and bless your home?
2) A- Ask. Ask about their needs.
3) I- Inform. Inform them that you have
been sent by God to bless them.
4) R- Release. Release the blessing.
5) O- Operate. Operate in the gifts of
healing, deliverance and the prophetic.
6) S- Speak final words of blessing and
encouragement.
But what
exactly should we bless people with? What should we say? First we ask the Holy
Spirit to help us with the words to bless before we begin, so that the people receive
the blessing that the Father wishes to pour out on them; his insight, not ours;
his words, not ours. We need to be clear at all times that we are blessing in
the name of Jesus with his authority and anointing. All power and authority
resides in him, including the power and authority to bless.
